The Rutherford Lodge YHA is a long established hostel - it has been a YHA hostel since 1963 - in an historic former schoolhouse. It has a lot of character with a nice big lounge with a TV, a piano, fireplace and a big wooden dining table. There is also a fully-equipped kitchen and a laundry plus some lockers. The staff are very knowledgeable about the Nydia Track and it's a good place to stay if you're planning to hike the Nydia Track.
Price Dorm bed $25-28 ($22-25 HI/YHA) Double/twin room $58 ($55 HI/YHA) Prices are in New Zealand dollars and are inclusive of all taxes.

I stayed at the Rutherford YHA recentley and found it to have helpful and friendly staff and a wonderful log fire in the lounge. The dorms doors all locked and I felt safe leaving my pack in there. They have a great travel desk to, my bookings were easy with their help.
