Ryland's Retreat (formerly Central Backpackers) offers basic accommodation in the city centre. It has the basic facilities such as a TV lounge with table tennis and a small kitchen, but many furnishings are old, carpets need replacing and other maintenance is needed.

Had the best time in NZ and would definitely recommend this hostel to anyone. Fantastic relaxed atmosphere on the deck all hours of the night. Meet some cool people. Loved Nelson and Abel Tasman. Will definitely be back there again.
