Bay Adventurer is a great, well-run hostel with a cool atmosphere and an incredible range of facilities. Dorm rooms are comfortable and nicely maintained. Beds have real mattresses and individual reading lights (a nice touch), and all come with a locker. The kitchen is clean and fully-equipped and there’s a sweet flat-screen TV in the adjoining lounge. Wireless internet is also available (10c per Mb; Zenbu). Outdoors, a swimming pool and a spa pool await in the courtyard. Guests have free use of bicycles and kayaks, and if all that doesn’t give you enough to do, free access to the tennis court next door is thrown in as well. The owners and staff are very friendly and helpful; it’s obvious a great deal of thought and care has gone into the Bay Adventurer, making it one of the top hostels we’ve seen.
Price Dorm bed $20-$25 ($19-$24 VIP/Nomads) Double/twin room $50-$85; studio $75-$125 Apartment $99-$22 Prices are in New Zealand dollars and are inclusive of all taxes.
Pros:
Everything, the beds, the rooms, the pool......
Cons:
Nothing

This hostel has to be one of the best I've ever stayed in. relaxed, comfortable, great beds, fantastic kitchen, friendly staff and guests. It's a relatively quiet hostel, but with backpacker bars down the the road you're never far away from the "action" (if action is the right word....)The worse thing about this hostel was having to leave and go back to Auckland.

I have stayed here and the place is awesome. We had the whole dorm room to ourselves too which was great after being sharing with 6 or 7 people for so long. Beds are really comfortable too and was good to get a good nights sleep for a change (after visiting the bars down the road ha ha ha). Ooh thanks for the hairdryer too.
Yeah, it was more chilled out than some of the noisier places, but it's just what you need after a full day on the water, I reckon. The spa and pool were immaculate!!! And there were no busloads of 18-year-old drunken idiots to put up with. Best place in Paihia.

Just stayed here with my girlfriend, she chose the place but I thought was great! we have travelled extensively & decided that we liked having no ensuites in our dorm rooms, not getting woken by flushing toilets & early risers, we didnt have to wait for the showers either. Great to have tennis, bikes, spa and stuff. Real clean & courtyard is great too. cheers

This place is awesome, I have just stayed there over the winter and I love the FREE SUNBED!!! A real added bonus for us chicks - and guys too maybe?? I liked the fact that it was close to the bars but did not have a bar onsite - so I could go for a drink down the road but come back to a good nights sleep - on a bloody comfortable bed too! Yep i was surprised by this place it really is a backpackers resort = videos, tennis, HOT SPA, gas fire, bikes, swimming pool (though I didn't get in it, looked really nice), music playing, burnt my photos to CD for me $4 cheaper than in town :o) And they have iPod capability. AND THEY WERE THE CHEAPEST IN TOWN - I ONLY PAID $18 WITH MY VIP DISCOUNT CARD :o) Wicked thanks guys ;o)

Sets a new standard for backpackers in NZ, as it was the best I stayed in. Quiet, very clean, great atmosphere. really liked the large pool and spa. Also now offer free soup in the evenings, enough for a whole meal. Also free bikes and kayaks which was appreciated.

Quiet backpackers, very clean with a pool, kitchen is small, and not such good value as no.11 next door, but very good nonetheless

This place is under new ownership and what a great place it now is. I stayed here when it first opened two years ago. I was impressed then but even more impressed on my last visit. Spotlessly clean, a wonderful atmosphere (quiet but 'buzzing') and so many facilities it's more like a resort than a backpackers - free tennis, kayaks, bikes, a swimming pool, spa.A great place run by great people. It's the newest backpackers in Paihia and certainly the best.
