BUG Review
Set in a converted old hospital, Chalet Backpackers has tons of character and a great international vibe. The dorms have huge windows looking out to the bay and comfortable single beds. There is a big modern kitchen, laundry facilities, a pool room, free tea and coffee, cheerful Swiss management and a cute garden in the back. There is no internet access, but the location is very central.
Price Dorm bed $24 ($21 BBH) Single room $38 ($35 BBH) Double/twin room $54 ($48 BBH) Prices are in New Zealand dollars and are inclusive of all taxes.
Pros:
They do your laundry for you and fold the clothes for only $5
Cons:
Not really a con but it is on top of a hill

We stayed in a double room, the room was very spacious and had a high ceiling, it was also very clean. The owners of the place are VERY friendly and the fact that they do your laundry and fold it for you for only $5 is just awesome, saves a lot of time!!We were also provided with free towels in our room, nice to keep one's towels clean =)The kitchen is quite big and has everything you might need and the dining room is just off a longtable, very easy to strike up a conversation with other house mates that way.The free pool table was also a nice bonus!
It felt like quite an earie place what with all the stories of ghosts that surround this hostel and the ghostly theme that the owner has adopted. I felt spooked on my first night because our room looked like a hospital ward, i got used to it and found it fun to stay somewhere unusual. The hill its on is a bit of a steep trek uphill which i never got used to, it had nice views tho! About 15 -20mins walk to the centre.People were friendly and the place was kept clean and tidy

Heinz was very helpful and friendly. The Chalet is close to a great Irish Pub, Dicey O'Reilly's. The best "Irish" Pizza I ever had. Be ready to climb up High St. to get back to The Chalet. It's worth it, for the most comfortable bed yet. At least in Room 2!
