BUG Review
Deco Backpackers is a good hostel with clean and well maintained facilities. The dorms are a bit cramped, but they have wonderfully comfortable beds and fluffy pillows. There is a large fully-equipped kitchen and a dining area that doubles as the common room where backpackers gather to socialise at night and use the free wireless internet. There is also a cosy TV lounge with DVDs and a garden with fruit trees, a barbecue and an awesome view. The hostel is centrally heated and the water throughout is filtered. It has an intimate, convivial atmosphere.

A filthy and unfriendly place to start with, April 22, 2006
Reviewer: camelia from canada

Pros: There is nothing good about this hostel
Cons: The blonde receptionist, the fact that it is filthy.

When I got there, I knew it cost me 20 dollars to sleep a night at the hostel. Well, the blonde and mean receptionist told me that there was an additional 3 dollar charge for the cover. This is the kind of New Zealand "hospitality". People just don't go from place to place with their cover in the bag. When I expressed my dissatisfaction, she told me that she did not need unhappy people around that hostel. You can see how many "happy" people wrote "Good" reviews about that hostel and she added that I was free to leave, which I did. I will never go back to that place. And she added that they were the cheapest in town. Well, find out Queenstown meanie, that there are many other clean, decent and welcoming places, but not in that town of yours. I hope you will get fired as soon as possible. Not only are you disgusting and disrespectful, but you are also a real B to start with. I went to the car cable and one guy took a picture when I was about to go up the mountain. I had no idea what was the photo for. When I got back, after paying the outrageous amount of 19 dollars (cheap, they would say), another predator asked me whether I wanted to purchase the photo for 30 NZ dollars!! Nobody asked them to take pictures and yet, they decided they had another chance to rip us off as if they hadn't done it before. I left with a very bad taste and impression about New Zealand in spite of its natural beauty and some really friendly people. Many of them are in fact big time predators and they prey on tourists willing to visit their country. Shame on them.

My biggest complaint about this hostel is that the water pressure in the showers was so weak it was almost pointless taking one. The rooms were also cramped. It does have a backyard with good views however. This place is ok but there's probably better options in Queenstown.

we arived at the hostel only to be told to wait 45 mins in the tv room till the reception was open. The facilities were not pointed out to us, we were not even told where they were. Construction went on throughout our stay, and the receptionist came to our door demanding payment, only to realise she had the wrong room and left with no apology.
