BUG Review
Newtown Heights Lodge is a former nurse’s dormitory a few minutes drive from the city centre. The buildings date from the 1970s and it’s obvious some of the décor and furnishings haven’t been changed since. Backpacker rooms are generally twin shares, except for a single six-bed dorm. There’s a small kitchen and TV lounge and free internet access available on a single PC. A rooming-house feeling pervades, more so than in a traditional hostel. Plenty of off-street parking is a plus and Newtown has a smaller-town feel than the city centre. Newtown Heights Lodge is also closer to the airport than the city hostels, another reason some choose to stay here. But it doesn’t have much appeal otherwise.
